Personalizing Room 197

I think it would be a great idea to add some character to Room 197. I know that we have the updated Major Works posters and the bulletin board on the side with notes about the chorus program, but I think there is more we could do with it. Last year in Concert Chorale, we talked about having people create new murals for the chorus room. I think this would be a fun way to spice up the chorus room and for all of us to remember what we have accomplished during our time at Hingham High School. Since we have the posters dedicated to Major Works, the murals could maybe be of the Talent Expo Concert (which I think almost everyone agrees is the more fun and relatable of the two major concerts) and it could brighten up Room 197. I know that I have only been involved in one Talent Expo (Country), but it seems as if that concert went above and beyond most people standards. If a mural of that concert was up, it would be a great reminder for everyone of what we accomplished and how we got to where we did. And for the people who did not participate in the concert, it might act as a motivator for them, and even people who were involved in the concert, to step up so that they can achieve something just as great. Other murals of major Talent Expos could be put up like Elvis, Disney, etc. and we could vote on them as a chorus like we do for concert posters. I think something else that would help bring the chorus room to life is if there were mementos of old chorus traditions, trips, and festivals. We all know that the chorus program has been lacking enthusiasm for some of these things (trips), but pictures or souvenirs from previous times could show off the chorus’ bond and the culture of the classroom. I, personally, would love to be able to see what other years have done on the trips, festivals, and traditions (coffee, cotton candy, apple picking) because it is nice to see the memories of other people’s good times in chorus, and it would make me want to have those memories more than I already do. Finally, I think having items that are specific to the chorus would be a nice thing to have. At the beginning of the year, some people were talking about the plant and water cooler that used to be in the chorus room. Everyone was getting so excited just talking about those two seemingly simple things. I think that they signified something that was specific to the chorus and that’s why everyone loved them so much. Sometimes it’s nice to have something that is unique to one place (Room 197) that you can’t get other places. I think personalizing the chorus room will help not only brighten up the room, but give us something to remember the chorus by.
