Shout Outs.
I would like to give a shout out to Grace Doyle's extraordinary singing voice. I've been in the same chorus as her since third grade, I believe, when we both signed up for the chorus a year early (giving up recess, in the process- a major sacrifice for an 8 year old). And every year, without fail, she continues to awe me with her vocal capabilities. When everyone else around me is struggling with a tricky note, usually I hear Grace behind me, quickly figuring out, and hitting, the correct note well before I do myself. She may not be the loudest singer in the chorus, but she is definitely one of those talented few who could actually make a career out of singing. Since changing seats, I've realized that having such a strong singing voice beside me has greatly improved my own voice, as it encourages me, unconsciously, to sing better. In addition to her lovely voice, Grace is also part of the reason why chorus is one of my favorite classes. Her enthusiasm and optimistic view of most situations helps my day improve greatly, even if it has started out rotten. Grace may seem quiet, but it took a brave soul to attempt the solo piece for the Momento Mori concert. Clearly, she gave the audition her all, for she received a part in the duet. All I'm saying is, Grace is definitely one of the chorus's unsung heroes. She loves to sing (excels at it, one could venture to say, since she very nearly made the elite Senior Districts), yet not until very recently was she given the recognition she deserved. Not every member of chorus may sing like angels, but the few who can, I think, should be recognized and brought to new heights. After all, a chorus cannot progress if its members don't feel comfortable enough to act like themselves.
