How to stay calm during an audition Empty How to stay calm during an audition

Everybody gets nervous. It's a feeling that everyone experiences different times in their lives. I personally get very nervous whenever I have to sing in front of people I'm not comfortable with. Singing with my friends or infront of my family or voice teacher is no big deal, but I can't help but freak out if I have to sing in front of anyone else. Many people feel this way too and I know from experience it's really hard to calm down when your nervous. Some people start shaking, some get goose bumps, others get too hot or too cold, and some just sweat. There are so many signs of being nervous and sometimes it's uncontrollable. There are three times during an audition that I believe you can get nervous. There's pre- auditon, during audition, and post audition. For pre- audition, I find not thinking about the audition helps. I think about things that always make me feel better until it is time to go in. Then, by the time I have to go in, I'm not as nervous. To keep my nerves down during auditions, I imagine that I'm singing in front of my friends. That way I don't have so much pressure placed upon me and it allows me to have fun with it. I also think about how accomplish I'll feel when I'm done with the auditions. Lastly, for the post auditions, i don't worry about if I got the solo for the audition. I know I tried my best and I'm not perfect. There will always be another chance for any auditon and you should never give up. Overall, If you just stay calm and try your best, you'll nail any audition. The support of your fellow chorus members helps a bunch too!Wink

How to stay calm during an audition Empty Ways to Stay Calm During an Audition

I agree with Hallie! I think it is normal to get nervous before and during an audition, everyone does. For me it helps if i think positive and try to not worry about it. I think this works well because if your not thinking about the audition then you shouldn't get to worried about it. Another helpful thing that I do is that I take deep breaths before I go in for the audition. This helps a lot because it calms me down and prepares me to sing. Both of these strategies can be used to stay calm during, before, and after an audition. The last thing that can help you stay calm before, during, and after an audition is encouragement from your classmates. This help reinsure people that they will do great and it boosts their confidence!
